Objective Two: Estimation Applications

Extend Field Data to Landscapes and Estimate Forest Variables using Satellite Data

The kNN method is a simple but powerful way to extend a wide range of field data to landscapes using multi-spectral satellite imagery. The method essentially assigns a pixel the field plot data of the most similar or nearest neighbor pixel for which actual field plot data exists in feature space. The feature space has most often been described in terms of spectral band values, but the space is not limited to such variables.
